Natural Skincare Queen at Melanin Makers' Market

Deeper Than Skin

Meet the maker and owner, Takiela Langley. The Natural Skincare Queen LLC was birthed from a love of bath and body products, a need for self-care, a quest to break free from the 9-5, a goal to empower other women, and a desire to push the legacy of entrepreneurship in her family to the next level as her sons look on. It’s deeper than skincare products!

About the Maker

Takiela was born and raised in the Southeast, coastal town of Brunswick, Georgia. She earned an undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education from HBCU, Fort Valley State University in 2004, a graduate degree in Instructional Technology from Georgia Southern in 2017, and a Nail Tech certificate from Savannah Tech in 2019. She is a member of the illustrious Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority! Takiela is a former educator and single mom who enjoys eating good food, drinking red wine, laughing with her bestie, and surfing the internet. She is co-founder of The Melanin Makers' Market, a craft market that provides a space for makers of color to bring their goods & talents to market.

In the Beginning

The Natural Skincare Queen actually grew out of a disappointing experiment meant for the owner's TWA after she big chopped in 2013. She made her first batch of butter only to find that she was not happy with the lack of "pop" that the butter provided for her curls. It was then that she decided to focus on the butter's skincare benefits. She began experimenting with recipes in her kitchen and giving her concoctions to her family as gifts. They loved it! It wasn't until 2019, that Takiela, who had grown restless with working in the public school system, began to devise a strategy for her exit plan. What she whipped up was the beginning of the made-for-melanin, plant-based skincare business, The Natural Skincare Queen, LLC.
